According to ESPN, Newcastle United are close to signing Santiago Munoz on loan.
The forward was first linked with the Magpies more than a fortnight ago, and it finally looks like this deal is going to be completed.
However, Munoz won’t become a permanent Toon player.
Instead, he will reportedly join the club on loan after signing a new one-year deal with his current employers Santos Laguna.
ESPN suggest that Newcastle will have an option to sign Munoz permanently next year.

The 19-year-old has reportedly said his goodbyes over the past few days, suggesting that he expects the deal to go through.
Munoz is an exciting name for Toon fans, simply because of his resemblance to ‘Goal!’ character Santiago Munez.
However, his arrival won’t be enough to appease a fanbase who have been left severely underwhelmed by the club’s limited transfer business.
We haven’t improved since last season, which is worrying considering how poor we were.

There’s also been an injury scare for Callum Wilson, who limped off against Southampton on Saturday.
While Munoz is a striker, it seems highly unlikely that he’s being signed to play a part in the first-team straight away.
Instead, Steve Bruce will have to rely on Joelinton and Dwight Gayle as backup.
Mike Ashley has often taken risks during his time as Newcastle owner, but the lack of investment this summer may be his biggest yet. The fact that they can’t even sign Munoz permanently says it all…
