Newcastle United have added Khephren Thuram to their list of midfield targets ahead of the summer transfer window.
Midfield is a major position for Eddie Howe to address, with the Newcastle boss keen to sign a defensive presence to free up Bruno Guimaraes to play higher up the pitch.
Domestic players are linked such as Scott McTominay, but it appears that the Magpies might have found a more enticing option from just across the channel.

According to i News, Newcastle are keen on signing Thuram from Nice this summer. They also mention that James Maddison is a target, which is well documented.
Thuram is a very exciting target, and a man who has cropped up in transfer discussions in the past. It has been claimed that Newcastle’s head of recruitment Steve Nickson is a big fan of the 22-year-old, who has been called ‘fantastic‘ by his manager Didier Digard.
When you watch him play, it is easy to see why. The Italian-born France international is both imposing and graceful in midfield, blending guile and power to make him an instrumental figure in midfield.
That is what Newcastle are looking for, but they face competition from Liverpool.
Liverpool also keen on Thuram
Like so many of our targets, there will not be a clear run at signing them. When it comes to Thuram, he has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool this summer. It has been claimed that the Reds have already held talks with his representatives over a transfer that could be worth £52million.
Jurgen Klopp needs a midfield rebuild, and is also targeting Manu Kone, who is another French midfielder linked with Newcastle.
In both instances, it will be interesting to see what kind of pulling power Newcastle have over Liverpool. While the Reds are one of the biggest clubs in the world and have a recent history of winning trophies, they will not be in next season’s Champions League.
