If Newcastle United sign Kieran Tierney from Arsenal this summer, they will be getting one of the Premier League’s quickest players.

Tierney is being heavily linked with a move to Newcastle, with his Arsenal future up in the air. He is not getting enough minutes under Mikel Arteta, which could lead to a transfer away from the Emirates.

Newcastle are primed to swoop in, with Eddie Howe a big fan of the 25-year-old left-back. It has also been claimed that Tierney is tempted by a possible move to the Magpies.

He will likely cost more than the £25million Arsenal paid for him in 2019, but he would be a great addition to Howe’s squad – especially given a recent stat that has surfaced about the Scotland international.

Kieran Tierney is the quickest left-back in the Premier League this season

Squawka have released a starting XI of the Premier League’s fastest players in each position, and the left-back slot belongs to Tierney.

The fastest speed he has clocked in at this season is 35.99mph, which actually makes him the eighth fastest in the entire Premier League. Squawka state that he is faster than both Marcus Rashford and Adama Traore.

That kind of speed is why he would be such a good addition at St James’ Park. While Dan Burn has been solid at left-back this season, he has not offered much going forward. His only attacking contribution was his incredible goal in the League Cup quarter final win over Leicester.

Tierney is much better at getting up and down the flank, as we saw in Scotland’s win over Spain during the week. It was a marauding run down the left from the Toon target that led to Scott McTominay finding the net.

Adding Tierney to our defence would give us much more balance, as a lot of our attacks come from the right side of the pitch due to Kieran Trippier’s ability.

A deal for Tierney would also mean that Newcastle have two of the Premier League’s quickest players, as Anthony Gordon is also in the side. He is the third fastest player this season, with a speed of 36.61mph putting him behind Mykhailo Mudryk and Brennan Johnson.
