Newcastle United are understood to still be in the running for one of their January targets after something unexpected happened on deadline day to the winger.
Newcastle had shown interest in signing 18-year-old Antonio Nusa from Club Brugge, but it looked like Brentford had all but confirmed the £25m deal on deadline day, until news emerged that the Bees had pulled out after he failed his medical.
A move is still possible for the Premier League side, but a new report from Het Nieuwsblad claims that both Tottenham and Newcastle are now back in the running for the winger.
Deal back on for ‘exciting’ talent Newcastle want
They’ll have to act with a little more caution now that they know he’s failed a medical at Brentford, but Newcastle do still have the chance to sign Nusa who has been so ‘exciting‘ to watch over in Belgium.
So far this season, the attacker has recorded five goals and assists in 16 league appearances this season and worked his way in the Norwegian first team back in August scoring in his debut against Jordan.
It’s unclear at the minute how the potential injury that caused him to fail his medical at Brentford will impact his future, but the last thig Newcastle can afford right now is another injury-prone player.
Of course, the talent is all there and he’s been tipped to have an exciting future, with some even comparing him to Haaland, but whatever is wrong with him could cause his career to take a huge downward turn.

Newcastle could still use versatile winger
Although he plays predominantly on the left, a position which Newcastle are quite stacked in compared to the rest of the squad, Nusa can also play on the right as well as a more central role.
The winger could be a potential long-term replacement for Miguel Almiron who has come under a lot of criticism this season from Newcastle fans and is one of a few players who could be sold in the summer for some extra money in the transfer budget.
Whether or not the fee stays the same is unclear, and now that the failed medical is common knowledge it will be interesting to see how that impacts Club Brugge when negotiating a new deal in the summer.
