Newcastle sources have been left baffled after transfer rumour they’ve heard recently

For the second time in less than a month, people at Newcastle United are rather surprised by a Toon transfer rumour that has been circulating.

The first was Ruben Neves, with a lot of talk that the Magpies could bring the 26-year-old in on loan from Al Hilal – who happen to be owned by PIF, just like Newcastle.

But a recent report stated that Eddie Howe’s side were not even discussing a January move for Neves, which made the recent Premier League vote all the more laughable.

Now there is another transfer rumour that has reportedly been met with confusion inside the corridors of St James’ Park.

Newcastle confused by David De Gea speculation

According to iNews, their sources at Newcastle are puzzled by talk of the club being interested in signing David De Gea following the injury to Nick Pope.

They state that a move for the Spaniard is unlikely despite his clear talent, with wages and contract length cited as reasons as to why De Gea probably wouldn’t be joining the Magpies in 2024.

This came after a report on Monday suggested that Eddie Howe’s side could make a move for the 33-year-old, who is still a free agent after being released by Manchester United in the summer.

It was also claimed that De Gea is interested in making the move, which is not massively surprising considering he has been without a club for a number of months.

Given the talk of De Gea being keen and Newcastle being confused internally, this all seems to point in the direction of agent talk – like a lot of transfer rumours.

If wages were not an issue, De Gea would be a great signing for Newcastle. But they probably will be, and it is still far too early to tell whether or not we need a new goalkeeper.

For now, Martin Dubravka is going to get a chance to prove himself, and he will hopefully end up being the Magpies’ first choice goalkeeper for the duration of Nick Pope’s absence.
