Newcastle reportedly face fresh competition to sign Adam Armstrong

Norwich have reportedly joined the race to sign former Newcastle striker Adam Armstrong this summer.

The forward is a man in demand after an incredible season for Blackburn. Armstrong scored 28 Championship goals, a tally only bettered by Brentford’s Ivan Toney.

He scored a hat-trick against Huddersfield in April, prompting Toon legend Alan Shearer to call him ‘brilliant’ on Twitter.

Armstrong’s form has led to speculation about a return to the Premier League.

He played 15 times in the top flight for Newcastle, but failed to score a single goal.

However, Armstrong seems set to get a second chance in the Premier League next season.

TeamTalk reported back in March that Newcastle want to re-sign the academy graduate. Meanwhile, the Express have claimed that West Ham and Southampton are keen. However, Lancs Live have disputed the Saints’ interest.

Now another Premier League club have entered the frame – Norwich City.

The Canaries are heading back to the Premier League, and will need to bolster their squad if they hope to survive.

And the Telegraph claim that they are set to join the race to sign Armstrong. They reportedly see him as a bargain signing at £10million.

That’s half the £20million fee that Blackburn want, as reported by the Express.

Regardless of what happens, the fee is important to Newcastle. If he’s available for just £10million, then he’s an affordable option for the Magpies.

But if he’s joining someone else for that fee, then Newcastle will feel short-changed.

The club inserted a 40% sell on clause when Armstrong left in 2018.

Newcastle are in a strong position no matter where Armstrong goes this summer. But with the Toon’s attack struggling at times last season, he’s the kind of player who would improve us massively.
