Newcastle now respond to deadline day approach for Paul Dummett

It looks like there will be no incomings at Newcastle United on transfer deadline day, but there is always a chance of outgoings.

There will be no big name leaving, with the likes of Miguel Almiron remaining on Tyneside despite speculation over their future. However, a move away should hopefully be on the cards for Isaac Hayden.

There also continues to be rumours about Jamaal Lascelles heading to Turkey, and now another Newcastle United defender is attracting interest.

Ipswich want to sign Paul Dummett from Newcastle

That is according to the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder (10:57am), who believes that Championship side Ipswich Town are interested in signing Paul Dummett on transfer deadline day.

He has stated that Ipswich have enquired about signing the Geordie defender, but have not received the response that they wanted.

Ryder adds that Newcastle have rebuffed the approach, as they do not want the 32-year-old player to leave St James’ Park right now.

Dummett may struggle for minutes in the second half of the season

Dummett has not featured much for Newcastle this season. His last appearance came in the FA Cup, coming on as a late substitute in the derby win over Sunderland. As a local lad, that will have meant a lot to him.

In total, Dummett has made four appearances this season. Two of them have been starts, both of which came in the League Cup. He was outstanding in the victories over Manchester City and Manchester United.

With Newcastle now only competing on two fronts, it is difficult to see Dummett featuring much more this season. However, the club have made the decision to keep him.

That is understandable, as he is a popular player and there would not be much benefit to letting him leave – unless he were to ask for an exit.

But for now, it looks like Paul Dummett is going to continue as a Newcastle United player.
