Newcastle make offer for ‘incredible’ 18-year-old striker who is wanted by Borussia Dortmund

Newcastle United are keen to add some much needed depth to their attack with a new striker either in January or in the summer.

Callum Wilson is expected to be sold in the next six months, leaving Alexander Isak as the only recognised striker at the club with the worry of his poor injury record.

A new report from Fanatik is now claiming that Newcastle have made an offer for 18-year-old Can Uzun who has been impressing in the 2. Bundesliga and is wanted by a handful of Premier League and European teams.

Newcastle in the race for £8.5m striker

Uzun, who has scored 11 goals and assisted twice in 18 games for Nurnberg this season, is expecting to make a move to a big team this summer with so many clubs eyeing his signature.

From England, Brighton are expected to compete with Newcastle for the teenager while Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt will be looking to keep Uzun in Germany.

It was previously reported that Newcastle had sent scouts over to watch the young striker who very recently bagged a brace in a 3-0 victory over Hansa Rostock to lift his team into seventh in the league.

It’s believed that the transfer fee discussed for Uzun would be around the £8.5m mark, so perfectly feasible for Newcastle, but it’s whether or not they view him as an ideal candidate to fill Wilson’s role next season, a tough act to follow.

Newcastle planning for summer overhaul

The Magpies will be happy to offload a number of players whose contracts are expiring in the summer but they will also be hoping to get rid of the fringe players still at Newcastle who are no longer needed.

There’s then the aging players to consider, the likes of Wilson and Kieran Trippier, who will have one final window of high value before Newcastle will either have to let them walk for free or receive very little for selling.

It’s very likely that a lot of the club’s future rests on this upcoming summer in which they will look to transform the squad into one that can compete for the Champions League spots once again.

Although Eddie Howe is keen to keep this tightly nit squad together, this may be something that is taken out of his hands as at some point the club have to bite the bullet and prioritise quality players over sentimentality.
