Newcastle United have entered the race for an exciting 18-year-old striker who has attracted the attention of some of Europe’s elite.

Newcastle have been looking to add some attacking reinforcements to their team and the recent news that Callum Wilson could be up for sale will only increase the need for a new striker.

Journalist Florian Plettenberg is now claiming that Newcastle have sent scouts to watch over 18-year-old Nurnberg striker Can Uzun, but he’s also wanted by Bayern Munich.

Newcastle face tough battle for Uzun

Uzun has been heavily impressing in the German second division this season where he has netted eight times in his 16 league appearances and is now wanted by some of the best in Europe.

Both Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are believed to have inquired about the teenager while Frankfurt, Brighton, Fulham, Sevilla and Villareal have also placed him on their lists of ones to watch.

It’s a big ask for Newcastle who don’t have a lot to spend as it is, but the potential departure of Wilson would certainly free up some funds to find a new long-term replacement for the England international.

It may be too early to tell if Uzun will be able to cut it at the very highest level of football, but he’s showing all the right signs at the moment and will no doubt get his big move very soon.

Newcastle need new striker in January

It’s no secret that Newcastle are in the market for a new attacker with Wilson and Alexander Isak their only options to lead the line currently.

That’s proved to be a difficult task with both striker’s struggling to stay fit for extended periods of time, leaving Newcastle and Eddie Howe in a tricky position when it comes to picking the team.

Howe doesn’t want to overexert Isak who has been so incredible when fit, but if Wilson is out injured then he has no option but to play the exciting Swede for the full 90 minutes of every game until Wilson’s return.

Adding a third-choice striker would be hugely beneficial to the team, but it’s a tough task finding a talented player who would be willing to play rotation minutes and not be the star of the show.
