Newcastle United are well stocked if they decide to sell Kieran Trippier during the January transfer window.
The 33-year-old is a target for Bayern Munich, who have already had an approach turned down by Newcastle United.
They are expected to come back in for Trippier this week, which could result in one of Eddie Howe’s most important players leaving the club.
If that does happen, Newcastle are in a strong position. They already have Tino Livramento, who was brought in from Southampton during the summer to be Trippier’s long-term replacement in black and white. And Eddie Howe also has Emil Krafth, who is always extremely reliable when called upon.
The Magpies would also have the option of bringing in a new signing to cover the right-back position, and a report from the Daily Mail suggests that the club are looking at replacements just in case Trippier does depart.
Newcastle look at Kieran Trippier replacement
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle have been taking a look at Borussia Monchengladbach defender Joe Scally.
Scally is a 21-year-old right back who joined the Bundesliga side in 2020 from New York City. He is already a USA international, and has made eight appearances for his country.
The youngster stands at six feet tall, and was involved in the USA squad that went to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. However, he did not make an appearance at the tournament.
He has been described as ‘very aggressive‘ by Monchengladbach chief Roland Virkus, and it sounds like he would have the physicality to do well in an Eddie Howe side.

Newcastle need a midfielder first
But even if Trippier does go, Newcastle do not need to rush into signing another right-back. Livramento is well placed to take over from the England international, while Krafth is a more than capable deputy. On top of that, Harrison Ashby will be back from Swansea City in the summer.
If Trippier does go, it should allow the club to be active in transfer window. And that should result in a midfielder arriving at St James’ Park, rather than a replacement right-back.
