It has been an absolutely incredible few weeks for Newcastle United fans, coaches and players – particularly Jamaal Lascelles.

The Magpies have enjoyed Premier League, Champions League and Carabao Cup success as of late, and they have done it with Jamaal Lascelles in the starting lineup.

The 29-year-old has been back in the fold due to Sven Botman’s injury, with Eddie Howe deciding to turn to his captain.

It has proved to be an inspired choice, with Lascelles playing key roles in famous wins over Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain. He was particularly impressive in the Champions League win, with Howe describing his performance as ‘magnificent‘.

It has been great to see Lascelles back in the side and playing so well after so long on the bench. He has started Newcastle’s last four games, and it is the first time he has been a regular starter since Howe’s formative months at St James’ Park.

The centre-back has done very well, and it looks like it could allow him to extend his Newcastle career.

Newcastle plan to keep Jamaal Lascelles

According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle have absolutely no plans to sell Lascelles during the January transfer window.

The report states that he will not be offered to other clubs, as they intend to keep the skipper at St James’ Park.

This comes after Lascelles was heavily linked with a move away from the club during the summer transfer window. Newcastle wanted to sign a centre-back, while Lascelles already wasn’t playing regularly.

A move away made sense, while it was also reported that he would not be getting a contract extension. His current deal runs out in the summer of 2024, and it is now unclear whether or not he will be offered a new deal.

You have to imagine his recent form could lead to a new contract, as Lascelles is an important figure behind the scenes. Not only that, but he has now proven that he can still do the business on the pitch.

For now, a January move away is not on the cards, while Lascelles will be hoping to continue playing despite the imminent return to fitness of Sven Botman.
