Newcastle United need to move players on this summer, which could be bad news for Jamaal Lascelles and his Toon career.

The club continue to be hamstrung by FFP, which means Dan Ashworth might need to move some players on before the Magpies can spend again.

It has been claimed that Allan Saint-Maximin could leave to fund a deal for Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes, and now a new report suggests that Newcastle have decided that another player is free to leave.

Newcastle willing to sell Jamaal Lascelles

According to 90min, Newcastle are willing to sell Jamaal Lascelles this summer. He is part of a list of eight players who 90min think are available for a move away from St James’ Park.

The other players are: Jeff Hendrick, Isaac Hayden, Matt Ritchie, Loris Karius, Karl Darlow, Ryan Fraser and Javi Manquillo.

The inclusion of Karius is strange, as he only signed a new contract last week. If they wanted rid, they would have let him leave when his deal expired. However, his future will likely coincide with what happens to Darlow, who has interest from clubs in the Championship.

Lascelles’ Toon career could come to an end

As for Lascelles, he is the club captain and one of the longest serving players at St James’ Park now. He signed for the Magpies in 2014, but did spent his first season away on loan.

The centre-back went on to become captain under Rafa Benitez, and was a key player during his tenure. However, he has regressed in recent years and is now on the fringes under Howe.

However, he is still the captain, and an ‘exceptional‘ one in the eyes of the manager. But Newcastle have lots of leaders now, most notably Kieran Trippier. He was the one who welcomed Sandro Tonali to the club when he arrived on Tyneside.

It had previously been claimed that Lascelles could stay this season, but that may no longer be the case. He is not going to get a new contract, and his current deal expires next summer.

That means now is the last chance to really cash in, at a time when Newcastle need to sell. While Lascelles might not be forced out the club, the Magpies are clearly open to a departure.
