Newcastle could yet make move to sign ‘outstanding’ Leeds United player this summer

Newcastle are hoping to bolster their ranks this summer and a right-winger has been identified as a priority position for the Magpies.

Eddie Howe is keen to prevent a similar season to last with injuries stunting his side’s progress in the Premier League and seeing them fall short in the cup competitions. The Newcastle manager still performed admirably with his injury-hit squad, but improvements must be made.

Miguel Almiron failed to recreate his fine 2022/23 form last term, and the Paraguay international has been linked with a move away from the club.

Newcastle have made no secret in attempting to improve the right-wing spot with a failed move for Michael Olise, who opted to join Bayern Munich instead.

But the Magpies have other targets in mind and Leeds United’s Crysensio Summerville could be one player who Howe steps up his interest in soon.

That is according to Ben Jacobs of GIVEMESPORT, who stated: “We obviously also know that Newcastle were one of the clubs that approached for Michael Olise, which sort of shows you that they’re looking for that wide, creative, minded player. And although the cost of Olise was too high for Newcastle to proceed, there’ll be other options on the market that I’m sure Newcastle feel are within their budget.

“Crysencio Summerville could be one to watch, although no approach has yet been made to Leeds United.”

Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, labelled Summerville as an ‘outstanding creative player’ and the winger would provide Newcastle with qualities that the Magpies severely lacked last season.

Howe’s side became fairly predictable on the right side with Almiron hesitant to use his weaker right foot, resulting in him cutting inside to cross or shoot with his preferred left. While Summerville is also left-footed, he is a lot stronger than Almiron on his right. Should the Leeds winger sign, it would mean Newcastle have a more varied attack on the right wing.

Newcastle have a transfer budget in ‘excess of £100m’ according to the Telegraph, and Summerville is seen as a player who can improve the squad while still leaving a handsome amount to spend on other areas of the pitch.

Leeds United’s failure to gain promotion could benefit Newcastle

Leeds United narrowly missed out on a place in the Premier League after losing in the Play-Off Final to Southampton. Leeds now face the real possibility of losing some of their star players, including Summerville.

A potential move to Newcastle is not thought to be imminent, however, Howe’s side could test Leeds’ resolve this summer. A chance for Summerville to prove himself in the Premier League again may be hard for the Dutchman to turn down.

Newcastle have not been afraid of dipping into the Championship to sign players before. The Magpies signed Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser from relegated Bournemouth, as well as Nick Pope who suffered relegation from the Premier League while at Burnley. It remains to be seen whether Newcastle will do so again for Summerville.
