Newcastle United have a number of options in midfield.
In truth, it’s probably the strongest area of Eddie Howe’s squad.
Newcastle, after all, have the likes of Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton, Joe Willock, Sean Longstaff and Lewis Miley competing for what is usually three positions.
The Newcastle United manager may have struggled for balance in that area of the pitch this season but that all appears to have been worked out of late.
Indeed, Tonali is starring in the deeper role and looks to have struck up a partnership with Guimaraes.
There had previously been a debate about whether the two can play together. While there will be tougher tests to come than the teams Newcastle have played of late, it does seem to have clicked.

Still, that does not mean changes are not afoot. Longstaff, after all, has been linked with a move away from the club, while Manchester City reportedly remain keen on Guimaraes.
With that in mind, Newcastle could reportedly look for further reinforcement at some point in January 2025.

England international Angel Gomes has been linked before and has been touted for a move again.
Newcastle could make move to Angel Gomes in 2025
According to The Chronicle, Newcastle could be among a clutch of clubs interested in the Lille midfielder.
Gomes will be out of contract in the summer of 2025 and will reportedly have the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund on his trail.
Still, they suggest a cut-price move or a free transfer at the end of the season are possibilities.
Angel Gomes could ask for a big wage at Newcastle
Players moving on free transfers are generally in a much better position to demand big salaries, with clubs obviously not required to spend money on a transfer fee in that situation.
Gomes would be no different should he wait to leave Lille at the end of the season.
In fact, according to GIVEMESPORT, the England man would want a big pay rise at his next club and could look for a deal worth up to £150k-per-week.
