Newcastle can afford to sign 31-year-old ‘idol’ who Joelinton wants at SJP

Newcastle United’s marquee signing this summer is Sandro Tonali, but a deal for Neymar would blow that and every other transfer out the window.

The Brazilian superstar could be on the move very soon, with reports stating that he has told Paris Saint-Germain that he wants to leave club. This comes during the same summer that Lionel Messi departed and Kylian Mbappe was forced to train away from the first-team.

PSG started last season with a fantasy front three. 12 months later and they could all be playing their football elsewhere.

But what has any of this got to do with Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United side?

Newcastle can afford to buy Neymar

According to Globo in Brazil, Newcastle are one of the few teams that can actually afford to buy Neymar this summer. That includes the transfer fee and the forward’s wages. Chelsea are named as another European club who would have the money to snap up the 31-year-old.

While that sounds absolutely tantalising, it simply cannot be true.

FFP has been a problem once again for Newcastle this summer, who have spent more than £100million on three new players. However, they did have to sell Allan Saint-Maximin to balance the books.

It is unclear how much money the Magpies have left for further reinforcements. Regardless, it surely is not going to be enough to bring Neymar to St James’ Park.

Neymar remains the most expensive footballer in the world, having cost PSG £191million back in 2017. They will obviously want to recoup as much as that as possible, while his current wages reportedly stand at around £600,000-a-week.

When you look at it like that, how on earth can Globo claim that Newcastle can afford Neymar?! Sure, PIF are extremely wealthy and have the finances to fund a deal for Neymar, but that does not mean the club itself have the money available to them.

Sadly, Neymar is the type of player who is always going to be linked with Newcastle following the change of ownership at St James’ Park.

Joelinton even spoke about Neymar joining him in the North East last year, and invited him to make the move. The 26-year-old described Neymar as an ‘idol’, and was excited by the thought of playing alongside him in black and white.

However, the only place that could be possible is in a video game.
