Joelinton invites Neymar to join Newcastle United

Neymar to Newcastle United is one of the strangest transfer rumours of the summer.

There is talk that the Brazilian superstar could leave Paris Saint-Germain, and a move away wouldn’t come cheap. He is the most expensive player in the world, and earns £26million-a-year at the Parc des Princes.

That makes any move away from PSG difficult for Neymar, and reports in France have stated that Newcastle are one of the only clubs that can afford him.

That’s a ridiculous sentence in itself- Newcastle can afford Neymar.

This comes after the Magpies became one of the richest clubs in the world last year following the completion of the Saudi-backed takeover.

With PIF owning 80% of the club, Newcastle suddenly have very deep pockets.

That’s led to crazy rumours about players moving to St James’ Park, including Neymar. While most transfer talk isn’t acknowledged by players, Joelinton has actually commented on a possible move for Neymar.

Joelinton comments on Neymar

Newcastle’s number seven has been interviewed for the Cast FC podcast, and was asked if he can invite Neymar to move to St James’ Park.

“We can get him a spot,” he said.

“If he comes it will be…I can’t explain it. This man is an idol. Huge in world soccer so the invitation is done. Ney, if you are listening to this, you can come. I’ll run to you all the time.”

Joelinton added that the number 10 shirt is waiting for him, although I’m sure Allan Saint-Maximin would have an issue with that.

He went on to add: “I’ll send a message to Bruno. Bruno has his contact. He can send Ney a message inviting him to play.”

While it’s nice to see how excited Joelinton is talking about Neymar, this is never going to happen. There are a million and one reasons why Neymar is not joining Newcastle United this summer.

First of all, why would he? I know we are on the up but we were fighting relegation last season. There’s no European football at St James’ Park. One of the best players in the planet has to be competing in the Champions League.

Secondly, it’s Newcastle. Why would he swap the glamour of Paris for the North East of England? We all know it’s the best place on earth, but I can’t imagine Neymar is going to feel the same.

The 30-year-old has been to Newcastle before, playing for Brazil during the 2012 Olympics. Perhaps he enjoyed the ability to get a Greggs no matter where you turn.

A move wouldn’t make sense financially either. Yes, we do have rich owners. Frighteningly rich actually. But that doesn’t mean we are a rich club.

Newcastle are being careful in the transfer market this summer to ensure they keep in line with financial fair play. Deals for Moussa Diaby and Raphinha could be out of reach due to the money involved, so how on earth are we going to afford Neymar?!

Wages would be the next issue. It wouldn’t be a good look if he’s playing in a team where he earns 10 times the amount of his teammates.

Joelinton might be excited and Bruno Guimaraes might know him from international duty, but Neymar is not coming to Newcastle. It’s laughable that I’m even writing this.
