Newcastle United owners PIF are reportedly keen on signing wantaway Paris Saint-Germain attacker Neymar this summer.
That’s according to a report from 90min, who have revealed that the Saudi Arabian ownership are keen on signing the Brazil superstar, either for Newcastle or for one of Al Ittihad, Al Nassr, Al Ahli or Al Hilal.
Contact has been made between PIF and Neymar’s representatives, and it is reported that PIF would love to see Neymar at St James Park with Newcastle.
Neymar has told PSG that he wants to leave this summer, but given his injury record and the finances involved, there are very few clubs who can afford to take him on.
Newcastle’s ownership means they may have the financial firepower to afford a deal for him, but it remains unclear whether Eddie Howe would like the 31-year-old in his team. If Neymar is willing to move to Saudi Arabia, a deal with one of the PIF-owned teams could still see him potentially loaned to Newcastle in the future.
Should Newcastle sign Neymar?
Although he has struggled with fitness, and rarely found his best form at PSG, Neymar is still an elite-level talent, and would be a huge statement signing for Newcastle as they return to the Champions League.
He was described as “world-class” as recently as last season by his former manager Christoph Galtier, and if he can find his best form, he could help take Newcastle up a level.

However, given that Howe has just added Harvey Barnes to his attacking ranks, whilst also letting Allan Saint-Maximin leave, it is clear that the manager will prefer harder-working attackers and the prospect of dealing with Neymar’s personality and status in the dressing room may be unappealing to him.
Despite his quality, his injury record in recent seasons has meant that Neymar will not likely be a good value signing, and given that Newcastle do not need to prioritise another attacker in the transfer window, it seems highly unlikely that Howe will push PIF to bring him to St James’ Park.
