Newcastle United have an absolute speedster in Anthony Gordon, but could soon look to sign a player who is even faster than the 22-year-old.
Gordon is one of the fastest players in the Premier League right now. In fact, the Newcastle winger was actually the fastest player in the entire division on the opening weekend of the new season.
His performances have been sensational as of late, boasting four goals and two assists for the Magpies this season. He is proving to be a revelation since his big money move from Everton at the start of the year, and now Newcastle are showing an interest in one of his former teammates from Goodison Park.
Newcastle interested in Ben Godfrey
According to 90min, Newcastle are interested in signing Ben Godfrey from Everton. They report that Tottenham Hotspur, Burnley, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Rangers are also keen.
The report from 90min states Everton are willing to listen to offers for the centre-back in January, with Newcastle named as long-term admirers of the former Norwich City centre-back.
The Magpies looked at signing a centre-back during the summer transfer window, but were unable to. It has led to Jamaal Lascelles enjoying an extended run in the side amid Sven Botman’s knee injury.
But Newcastle will still be looking for defensive reinforcements in 2024, and a move for Godfrey would give Eddie Howe the pace he is currently missing at the back.

Everton defender is faster than Anthony Gordon
Godfrey, who signed for Everton for £20million in 2020, is widely recognised for his obscene speed. It is one of his most important attributes as a defender, and he might even be quick enough to beat Anthony Gordon in a race.
And that comes directly from Gordon, who spoke about Godfrey’s speed when he was still an Everton player.
In a video about the fastest player at Everton, Gordon told the Toffees’ official YouTube channel: “I think Ben [Godfrey] beats us all.”
That speed will make the 25-year-old very appealing to Eddie Howe, as it is something his current centre-backs are really lacking.
However, a move for Godfrey would come as a shock to Toon fans, as he is a player who has barely featured for Everton this season. If he can only manage just one minute for a poor Toffees team, just how is he going to standout in a Newcastle side that wants to be a Champions League regular…
