‘Gone to another level’: Sky Sports pundit claims 22-year-old Newcastle player has got so much better

So many Newcastle United players have taken their game to a whole new level under Eddie Howe, and Anthony Gordon is no different.

Some eyebrows were raised when Newcastle splashed out on him in January, as he arrived from Everton for an initial £40million.

Gordon did not set the world alight to begin with, and even had an altercation with Howe during a 2-1 win over Brentford. At that point, it looked like Newcastle had made a mistake.

But the 22-year-old was brought in because of his potential, and he is realising it this season. He has been a key player for the Magpies, and is arguably Howe’s most influential player in attack.

Gordon is becoming a gamechanger for Newcastle, boasting six goal contributions so far this season. His latest came on Saturday, as he scored the winner against Arsenal – albeit in controversial fashion.

But that does not matter. What does matter is how much Gordon has improved, and Sky Sports pundit Stephen Warnock has made a big prediction about Newcastle’s number 10.

Stephen Warnock in awe of Anthony Gordon at Newcastle right now

Warnock has heaped praise on Gordon on Sky Sports News on Monday, and has backed him to break into the England squad very soon.

“He’s a danger, he really is,” he said.

“He’s quick, he’s athletic. His end product is getting better, which was always the question about him at Everton.

“I think he’s staying on his feet more now as well. I think he was probably accused by me at times on here that he goes down too easily under challenges. I think he’s becoming a lot more physically stronger in that way.

“All round, his game has gone to another level.

“I got asked this question a couple of weeks ago, the dark horse to get into the England squad. I think he’s the dark horse, I think he’ll break into that England squad.

“I think he’s that good at the moment. His trajectory is only going one way and he’s getting better game after game.”

Gordon will keep getting better at Newcastle

As Warnock says, Gordon is only going to get better in a Newcastle shirt. He has improved so much under Howe, and has the talent to continue this staggering rise.

The youngster is a joy to watch, as he combines blistering speed and skill with the fight and desire that Toon fans absolutely love. His work off the ball is fantastic, and it is why he is such an important player for Howe.

Gordon is playing so well this season, and it will surely end with international recognition. He has never been called up to the England senior squad, but Gareth Southgate can’t keep ignoring him much longer…can he?
