Newcastle United might not have to wait long to discover whether or not they can sign Liam Delap.
The summer transfer window is not far away, and Newcastle United would like to sign a striker that can provide Alexander Isak with more competition.
Liam Delap is one of Newcastle’s targets, as the 22-year-old prepares to leave Ipswich Town one year after arriving at Portman Road.
Following Ipswich’s relegation to the Championship, the forward’s release clause becomes available. Clubs can sign Delap for £30million, which represents great value for a player who has scored 12 goals in a struggling side.

New Liam Delap transfer details emerge
Newcastle United would love to be the club that lands Delap, and it has now emerged that his future could be resolved rather swiftly.
That is according to journalist Ben Jacobs, who has provided an update on Delap’s future on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Jacobs has stated that Delap’s decision will be influenced by who can offer him European football and that a a quick transfer could occur shortly after the 2024/25 season comes to an end.
He wrote on X: “Delap is expected to prioritise European football. Whereas Matheus Cunha is prepared to join #MUFC without it, Delap is likely to wait and see who has what come the end of the season. Still likely to be a quick transfer, as all suitors prepared to trigger the clause, and Delap expected to pick his next club before heading off to the Under-21 Championship.”
With a swift resolution possible, Jacobs notes that Newcastle, Manchester United, Chelsea, RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen are all in the race to secure his signature.
Newcastle United could do business before PSR deadline
A quick transfer would suit Newcastle United, as Eddie Howe is always keen for the club to act early in the transfer market.
Newcastle could do business before June 30th, which is when the next set of accounts must be submitted to the Premier League.
The Magpies are not at risk of breaching PSR like they were 12 months ago.
While there are no guarantees that Newcastle will be active early on in the summer transfer window, it is a possibility.
That could suit Ipswich, who will want to get their money for Delap as soon as possible. It will also suit the player, who could get what he is looking for at St James’ Park.
No matter what happens between now and the end of the season, Newcastle will be in Europe next season. They will compete in the Europa Conference League playoff after winning the Carabao Cup.
However, the overall goal is to qualify for the Champions League. Newcastle are in a strong position to do just that, which could help their bid to bring Delap to Tyneside.
