Micah Richards tells Crystal Palace what to do with Marc Guehi as Newcastle push to sign him

Micah Richards thinks Newcastle will be getting a ‘remarkable’ player if they can sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.

Whether Newcastle United will complete a deal remains to be seen, after Toon officials saw a fourth Marc Guehi bid get rejected.

Newcastle still think they can sign Guehi, but time is not on the Magpies’ side. The transfer window closes in less than two weeks, and Crystal Palace will not want this saga to rumble on into next week.

Toon officials must decide whether they are going to make one more bid or move on to alternatives. That alternative could be Joe Gomez, who was linked with Newcastle earlier this summer. His future is up in the air again, as Joe Gomez considers leaving Liverpool before August 30th.

That gives Newcastle another option, but Guehi remains the priority. However, the issue is the price.

Steve Parish wants ‘superstar money’ for Guehi, with Newcastle struggling to agree a fee for the 24-year-old centre-back.

Newcastle’s latest offer was worth around £65million, yet it was not enough for Crystal Palace to say yes.

The Eagles are holding out for as a big a fee as possible, and that is absolutely the right thing to do according to pundit Micah Richards.

Richards spoke about Guehi’s Crystal Palace future on Sky Sports Premier League on Sunday, and admitted that he thinks the defender is very much worth the £65million that the Eagles are looking for.

“It’s going to be difficult to replace him,” he said.

“I think there have been talks about £65million. I think Palace should hold out for as much as they can. I think he is that good.

“Aged 24, really humble in his interviews as well. I think the one question mark for me was could he step up to this level. In the Euros, he certainly showed that.

“His rise has been remarkable.”

Crystal Palace already trying to replace Newcastle target

Richards believes it will be tough for Crystal Palace to replace Guehi, but they are already working towards doing exactly that.

They have been targeting Maxence Lacroix from Wolfsburg, and Fabrizio Romano has stated that negotiations over a deal have been advancing.

His arrival could open the door for Newcastle to sign Guehi, which will be the Magpies’ hope.

Newcastle would be getting a great character in Guehi

Not only is Guehi a brilliant defender, he is also a brilliant character.

As Richards says, he is incredibly humble, as he shows when he speaks to the media. Guehi’s personality would make him a great fit for the Newcastle United squad, as Eddie Howe is always insistent on bringing the right people to the club as well as the right players.

Guehi certainly ticks both boxes. He is a leader for Crystal Palace, and he proved he can handle playing at an even higher level when he excelled for England at Euro 2024.

When you look at it like that, it is no wonder that Guehi is going to cost Newcastle United so much money – if they can agree a deal.
