Newcastle United’s January transfer business will depend on outgoings.
Geordie Boot Boys have been told that Newcastle United must sell to buy due to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
That is a major concern, as the Magpies could do with signing a centre-back, a right winger and a striker.
Landing all three will be virtually impossible, but Toon fans would love to see one new face arrive at St James’ Park. Ideally it will be an attacker, with Newcastle set to prioritise signing a right winger.
But that will not happen unless someone leaves, with multiple fringe players available for a move away from Tyneside.
Newcastle ready to sell Miguel Almiron

One of those players is Miguel Almiron, who is preparing for a third transfer window in a row where his future is uncertain.
The 30-year-old looks destined to leave, with Newcastle willing to listen to offers for Almiron.
It has been claimed that his asking price has been slashed, with Newcastle now valuing Almiron at £8million.
That is a lot less than the £30million that the Magpies wanted in January 2024, and it is also a lot less than the £21million he cost from Atlanta United in 2019. When that deal was completed, he became Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever.
New club interested in signing Miguel Almiron
Now he is surplus to requirements, with various clubs showing an interest in the Paraguay international.
While Saudi side Al-Shabab are no longer keen on Almiron, a team from Mexico has entered the race.
That is according to journalist Fernando Esquivel on X, who reports that Cruz Azul have been offered the chance to sign Almiron during the January transfer window.
He claims that Cruz Azul will aim to see if a deal is viable in early January, which suggests that a potential approach could be just around the corner. After all, we are in the dying embers of 2024 as January looms.
Esquivel adds that the Mexican club have three alternatives to Almiron, as they aim to strengthen their squad for the 2025 Liga MX campaign.
Newcastle need an early deal
If Cruz Azul are going to take their interest in Almiron any further, it will be during the early stages of the January transfer window.
That is perfect for Newcastle, as an early Almiron exit will give them more time to work on a signing of their own.
However, even if Almiron does leave, there are no guarantees that Newcastle will sign anyone. There is every chance that the Magpies decide to wait until the summer, when their targets are more likely to be available for a more reasonable price.
