Manchester United now appear to be encountering the same problem as Newcastle United when it comes to signing Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.
Mbeumo was a leading Newcastle United transfer target this summer but now appears hugely unlikely to become a part of Eddie Howe’s squad.
Indeed, Newcastle thought Mbeumo was too expensive, and they duly shelved their interest in the Cameroon international.
Mbeumo wants to join Manchester United, although the Red Devils may be coming to a similar conclusion as Newcastle.

Manchester United don’t want to overpay for Bryan Mbeumo
According to GIVEMESPORT, those at Old Trafford do not want to overpay for the Bees forward, having seen two offers rejected.
Their latest offer of £55million plus a further £7.5million in add-ons has been snubbed, and Brentford have confirmed Mbeumo could stay at the club.
The Red Devils are said to be ready to walk away from the deal if their next offer is rejected, such are their concerns about the expense, which was the same conclusion to which Newcastle were drawn.
They believe that overpaying for targets would send an unwelcome message to rival clubs.
Newcastle vindicated after ending Bryan Mbeumo pursuit
Mbeumo would have been a fine addition to the Newcastle United squad. The 25-year-old scored 20 Premier League goals last season, and would have added genuine depth for Howe.
Still, Newcastle cannot be drawn into another summer-long saga. That happened with Marc Guehi last year, and they were ultimately left with nowhere to turn after that move collapsed.
Brentford are under no pressure to sell, while Mbeumo has huge wage demands. Given Manchester United are also keen, it had all the makings of a protracted saga had Newcastle retained their interest.
Signing Mbeumo would have been brilliant, there’s little doubt about that. During a summer window in which the club need to make signings quickly, however, getting involved in a bidding war may have been more hassle than it’s worth.
