Newcastle United star Sean Longstaff is a transfer target for Manchester United.
The Geordie midfielder’s future is up in the air heading into the summer. It was reported earlier this year that Sean Longstaff is likely to leave at the end of the season, with his Newcastle United contract due to expire in 2026.
Everton are interested in Longstaff, who is open to a move away from St James’ Park after slipping down the Toon pecking order.
Now the 27-year-old has another suitor. It has been claimed that Manchester United are interested in Longstaff, six years after they first tried to sign him.

Manchester United fans react to Sean Longstaff rumour
That fact is not lost on Manchester United fans.
They have reacted to the Sean Longstaff rumour on X (formerly known as Twitter), and are not enthused about the prospect of him joining Ruben Amorim’s squad.
One supporter asked: “Is it 2019 all over again?”
Another Man United fan shared a similar sentiment, writing: “Have I gone back in a time machine or something or are we back in 2019.”
“Can we sink any lower?” asked a third Red Devils fans.
“He doesn’t even get in the Newcastle team,” noted this Manchester United supporter.
A fifth member of the Old Trafford faithful added: “He can’t get into the Newcastle midfield so what makes him good enough to get into our midfield. Looks like an agent using us to get his client a new contract or put his name out there so clubs know he’s available.”
Finally, this Man United fan asked: “Are we still using Dan Ashworth’s blue print for transfers!!!”
Sean Longstaff could help Newcastle United’s PSR position
Amid interest from Everton and Manchester United, it very much feels as if Longstaff’s Newcastle United career is at a crossroads.
He was previously a key player under Eddie Howe – a pivotal part of his midfield.
However, his minutes have started to decrease, with Longstaff’s last Premier League start coming in December. He has slipped down the pecking order, with Longstaff arguably behind Joe Willock and Lewis Miley now.
A move away could be required, and it would be a transfer that would benefit Newcastle United.
As Longstaff has come through the club’s academy, any fee the Magpies receive will go down as pure profit with regards to PSR. That could be a huge boost ahead of a summer in which Eddie Howe’s squad could be overhauled.
Newcastle have already boosted their PSR position with exits for Miguel Almiron and Lloyd Kelly, with Paul Mitchell in a strong position to flex his recruitment muscles this summer.
That position would be strengthened further by Longstaff leaving, amid rumoured interest from Manchester United.
