Newcastle United are ready to move for Yoane Wissa – sparking fears from Manchester United fans over Bryan Mbeumo.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Newcastle United are now exploring a deal to sign Brentford star Wissa after dropping out of the race to sign Hugo Ekitike.

Newcastle agreed personal terms with Ekitike but reportedly couldn’t go higher than the initial bid they made to Eintracht Frankfurt for the striker, which was rejected by the German club.

Now, they are prepared to make a move for the DR Congo international. Wissa is the second Brentford star Newcastle have looked to sign this summer, having previously been interested in Mbeumo.

Still, Mbeumo wanted to join Manchester United instead. They, however, are yet to agree a deal with Brentford in what has become a protracted transfer saga.

Ornstein’s aforementioned report suggests the deal could depend on what happens with Mbeumo this summer.

Manchester United fans fear they will miss out on Bryan Mbeumo

After the news from Ornstein, Man United fans on social media platform X were concerned.

Such has been the protracted nature of their saga to sign Mbeumo, many of them are now fearing that Brentford will keep the Cameroon international while selling Wissa to Newcastle.

“Oh dear, it’s not looking good,” said another fan.

One supporter said: “If we allow Newcastle to get their target in Wissa before we get Mbeumo then that tells you everything.”

“If Mbeumo to [Manchester] United doesn’t happen. It will be the end of INEOS,” claimed one angry fan.

Yoane Wissa compared to Hugo Ekitike

Missing out on Ekitike is a blow, there’s little doubt about that.

Still, if it means keeping Liverpool from moving for Alexander Isak, it’s an easier pill to swallow.

Wissa would hardly be a bad alternative, either.

Granted, he’s much older than Ekitike but has proven himself a reliable source of goals in the Premier League over the past few seasons.

Ekitike perhaps has a higher ceiling than the Brentford star. Right now, however, Newcastle need reliable cover and competition for Isak, something Wissa could feasibly bring St James’ Park
