Man Utd move to sign ‘extraordinary’ 28-year-old who Newcastle want for free

Long-term Newcastle United transfer ‘target’ Adrien Rabiot could be on his way to the Premier League this summer, but his only visit to St James’ Park next season might be as an away player.

The midfielder has been linked with signing for Newcastle a lot since the change of ownership back in October 2021. Those links have mainly came from the European press, and they have continued into the summer of 2023.

Rabiot‘s Juventus contract is due to expire this summer, with the 28-year-old on course to become a free agent. It has been reported in Italy that the Magpies have made a move for Rabiot, offering him a contract worth more than £4million-a-year – which is considerably less than what he is earning at Juve.

It feels like there is limited truth behind the claims of Newcastle trying to sign the ‘extraordinary‘ Rabiot, but they could soon come to an end if he secures a move to England.

Manchester United make Adrien Rabiot move

According to the Athletic, Manchester United have made contact with Rabiot about signing for the Red Devils ahead of next season.

They tried and failed to sign him last year, with player and club unable to agree personal terms. There must be a belief that things will be different this time, otherwise Man United would not waste their time with an approach.

A move to Old Trafford would end all speculation over a switch to Newcastle, which would be a good thing. It is one of those rumours that continues to rear its ugly head, even though there is likely 0% substance to it. While he is a talented player, there is no chance he is the ideal fit for Eddie Howe’s team.

He might be a hit at Man United, and fair play if he is. But at least a transfer there can end the talk of Rabiot to Tyneside.

However, there is a chance that Rabiot does wear a black and white shirt next season. That is because Juventus are hoping he signs a contract extension and remains in Turin. If that does happen, expect the Toon rumours to resurface in the coming months.
