Manchester United have rubbed the signing of Benjamin Sesko into the faces of Newcastle United fans with a post about their newest signing.
It is fair to say that the transfer window has not gone to plan for the Magpies, despite the promise of several major additions following qualification to the Champions League on the final day of the season.
Sadly, the untimely departure of Paul Mitchell and several players rejecting moves to the North East have led Newcastle United to just two signings for the first team so far.
The likes of Joao Pedro and James Trafford looked destined to sign for Newcastle before moving to Chelsea and Manchester City, respectively, and Newcastle have now been dealt yet another blow as Benjamin Sesko has been confirmed as a Manchester United player.
Sesko praised Man United’s ‘project‘ and hailed it as one of the key reasons why he signed for the Red Devils over the Magpies. It feels as though Newcastle cannot catch a break this summer, even after their offer for Sesko was accepted.
With Newcastle now looking to sign another striker, Man United have rubbed salt into the wounds with a brutal social media post involving the striker.
- Get to know Benjamin Sesko… The ‘top-class’ striker Newcastle United lost out on to Man Utd

Man United troll Newcastle after signing Benjamin Sesko
While he did ultimately pick Man United, it was reported that Sesko had verbally agreed to join Newcastle before opting for Old Trafford.
The Magpies’ striker search continues, with Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson admired by Newcastle staff. However, an official approach is yet to be made for the 24-year-old. There was confidence that Sesko was going to become a Newcastle player, but in the end, he got away from them.
Sesko gave Newcastle encouragement following talks with Jamie Reuben. Those talks made the club put in an improved bid for the striker.
With the 22-year-old now confirmed as a Man United player, their social media team wasted little time mocking their historical rivals. On X, Man United wrote: “It was only ever United.”
The post is a clear, yet indirect dig at Newcastle after they missed out on one of their top targets.
Newcastle United have several strikers on their shortlist after Benjamin Sesko blow
While losing Sesko to Man United was a blow, Newcastle have several other transfer targets who should cost less than the £70million+ they were willing to put up for Sesko.
Additionally, the money they have saved on not signing him means that they can improve other positions as well. For example, Newcastle want defender Malick Thiaw, who could cost upwards of £30million this summer.
Regarding linked strikers, Newcastle’s shortlist is full of quality attackers who have either shown their quality in the Premier League or elsewhere.
Newcastle have shortlisted the likes of Randal Kolo Muani, who was recently on loan with Juventus, while the likes of Ollie Watkins and Jorgan Strand Larsen are also admired.
As it stands, there is no definitive frontrunner for Newcastle to sign, but word on who could join should become clearer in the coming days.
