Newcastle United are set to announce the signing of Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga after agreeing a £55m deal and personal terms. Their next priority has been made clear.
Fans are rejoicing after learning that they will finally be making a major signing after such a long time without one on Tyneside. The last player to join and make an impact in the starting XI was Lewis Hall in 2023, but there will be a new name on Howe’s teamsheet next season and his name is Anthony Elanga.
It is an exciting time on Tyneside, with Elanga set to join Newcastle United for £55million from Nottingham Forest. The winger enjoyed a brilliant season in the Premier League last time out, registering 17 goal involvements.
The winger is travelling to Tyneside on Tuesday to complete his medical and officially become a Newcastle player. In the meantime, Newcastle have been in talks with Burnley for James Trafford. The shot-stopper is Eddie Howe’s top target between the sticks, and he is very eager to bring him to the club after missing out on him last summer.
Burnley rejected Newcastle’s latest bid of £26m in late June, with Scott Parker hoping for more than £30m for the England international. While Trafford remains a top target for the Magpies, Sky Sports correspondent Keith Downie has shared what Newcastle’s next priority is after Elanga.

Newcastle United to sign a striker next after Anthony Elanga deal
Howe wants to improve several positions in his squad this summer ahead of Newcastle’s return to the Champions League. Some players have already left the club, while others could follow closely behind.
Jamal Lewis admitted his disappointment at his Newcastle career, while it has been confirmed that Callum Wilson is entering free agency after five seasons on Tyneside.
Elsewhere, Sean Longstaff has agreed personal terms with Leeds United as he looks for more game time in the Premier League.
It has now been revealed by Downie that Newcastle are going to prioritise signing a striker following Wilson’s departure. The 33-year-old had a slew of messages from teammates come his way after confirming his exit, which left Newcastle with just two natural strikers in the first team.
Howe has been left with just William Osula and Alexander Isak as his options up front next season, so the need for another backup option is clearly there.

Newcastle United linked with Dominic Calvert-Lewin amid striker focus
Focusing on a striker makes sense following Wilson’s exit. The Magpies could look to academy players like Sean Neave or Garang Kuol to replace him, but Howe is clearly looking for more experience ahead of a busy 2025/26 campaign.
According to reports, Newcastle are interested in signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin after his release from Everton. It was reported that Calvert-Lewin has over a dozen clubs keen on signing him, but he could still end up with the Magpies.
Geordie Boot Boys were informed that Newcastle have held talks for Calvert-Lewin, who has experience of playing in the Europa League with Everton. The only question mark is whether he will be happy to play as a backup to Isak, in a similar position to what Wilson was in last season.
Additionally, Calvert-Lewin will have serious wage demands and is keen on signing a long-term deal at his next club. Manchester United are also interested in Calvert-Lewin, but it remains to be seen which club he joins this summer.
