Newcastle United are still open for business as they go in search of a breakthrough on transfer deadline day.
It has been quiet for the Magpies so far, as Toon fans continue to dwell on the fact that Newcastle have pulled out of talks to sign Marc Guehi.
Unless the Magpies suddenly decide to up their offer or Crystal Palace dramatically change their mind then there is no chance of Marc Guehi arriving at St James’ Park.
That is a massive shame, as the club have committed so much time to trying to bring him to the North East. And it does not look like there is a backup plan, with Eddie Howe unconvinced by the Guehi alternatives.
‘There is a chance’ Newcastle United could make one deadline day signing
With the transfer deadline now looming, Howe has admitted that it will be difficult for Newcastle to make anymore new signings.

Four signings have been made this summer, as well as Lewis Hall becoming a permanent Toon player.
However, there is still time for another addition, with Newcastle open for business if the right deal comes up.
And an update from the Telegraph’s Luke Edwards on X states that Newcastle United are in fact working on a deal to make one last signing before the transfer window closes at 11pm.
He wrote on X: “Newcastle are working on one potential incoming today. Far from guaranteed it will happen but they are trying and there is a chance. Feel free to insert jokes about not getting it over the line below.”
Newcastle looking at an attacker
Luke Edwards has not named the player that Newcastle United are trying to sign, but it is certainly encouraging that discussions are taking place.
Geordie Boot Boys have been told that the player that Newcastle United are trying to sign is a winger, rather than a Marc Guehi alternative.
Mohamed Simakan was linked as an option instead of Guehi, but he is set to sign for Al-Nassr.
Newcastle have been linked with signing James Trafford
One player that Newcastle are interested in signing is Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford. He was heavily linked with the Magpies earlier this summer, and had looked set to join the club.
It has been reported that Newcastle are keen on a deadline day deal for Trafford, and he is clearly a player who Eddie Howe would like to work with at St James’ Park.
A deal for Trafford would probably depend on another goalkeeper leaving, as Newcastle currently have five senior stoppers at St James’ Park.
That could open the door for Odysseas Vlachodimos to depart, despite only signing for Newcastle from Nottingham Forest earlier this summer.
