Liverpool throw Bryan Mbeumo curveball that comes as bad news for Newcastle United

Newcastle United are in desperate need of more strength in depth next season.

That was evident during the 4-1 loss to Aston Villa on Saturday, where three games in six days had clearly caught up to the Magpies.

Newcastle United fans noticed the lack of depth, comparing it to their opponents, who had several quality players to come on from the bench.

Paul Mitchell has a big task ahead of him this summer to make the club ready for European football next season. It has been widely reported that Newcastle want a new goalkeeper, right-sided centre-back, midfielder, right-sided attacker and another striker. The Magpies have the funds to get those deals done following a successful year in the financial department which has seen them move further away from any more PSR woes.

Newcastle had to sell during the 2024 summer transfer window, but the expectation in 2025 is that arrivals will outweight the departures.

With a busy transfer window on the horizon, Eddie Howe’s side have been heavily linked to Bryan Mbuemo, but a new transfer report spells bad news for the Magpies..

Liverpool make Bryan Mbeumo transfer stance after Mo Salah’s new deal

Premier League leaders Liverpool are now just one game away from winning the title following their victory at the King Power Stadium, which saw Leicester relegated back to the Championship on Sunday.

One of the starters for Arne Slot’s side was Mohamed Salah, who looked set to leave the Reds at the end of the season. However, the Egyptian has signed a new two-year deal to keep him on Merseyside until 2027.

At one point, it was reported that Liverpool wanted Alexander Isak to replace Salah, but that now looks unlikely to happen. While the 32-year-old, who has scored 27 Premier League goals this season, is set to stay, Liverpool are still keen on bringing Brentford winger Mbeumo to the club this summer.

According to the Sun, Liverpool still want to freshen up their forward line, and Mbeumo has the qualities they like.

The report suggests that Brentford would want £50m for the 25-year-old, who scored twice in the Bees’ 4-2 win against Brighton on Saturday.

It is believed that Mbeumo is Howe’s ‘dream’ Newcastle target, and is eager for Mitchell to bring him to Tyneside after an impressive 18 goals this season.

Bryan Mbeumo got a taste of St James’ Park atmosphere at Brentford

Mbeumo has been a thorn in Newcastle’s side this season, scoring twice and bagging an assist across their three meetings during the 2024/25 campaign.

Howe is ready for Mbeumo to join Newcastle after witnessing him cause problems against his team, but there is a chance that Mitchell is not on board.

A recruitment executive believes Mitchell does not want Mbuemo at Newcastle, believing the sporting director will be looking for cheaper deals this summer.

Mbeumo admitted St James’ Park is a ‘tough’ ground to play at following Brentford’s 2-1 loss to Newcastle earlier in April. However, the Cameroon international still managed to get on the scoresheet.

Fans have had a glimpse of Mbeumo at their ground twice this season, many will hope it is a lot more often after the summer transfer window.
