Newcastle United fans are expecting a busy January transfer window with Paul Mitchell under pressure to deliver.
It was a poor summer transfer window for Newcastle who failed in their attempts to sign key targets. The Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules were a catalyst to that but Newcastle bosses needed to endure some of the blame.
Newcastle faced a points deduction as the PSR deadline loomed – Toon boss Eddie Howe was forced to see young players who had a future at the club leave to prevent the club from falling behind at the start of the season.
However, the signing of Lewis Hall has proven to be a shining light amid the Magpie’s sorrows – the 21-year-old earned his first England call-up in November alongside teammate Tino Livramento.
With the January transfer window now in full swing exits are looking increasingly likely, but transfer business outside of the club is sure to catch the eyes of many Toon fans.

Liverpool considering move for Elliot Anderson
Elliot Anderson is having a fine season for Nottingham Forest having joined from Newcastle in the summer. The 22-year-old was one of the sacrifices made to generate profit for the club amid a punishment from the Premier League, alongside Yankuba Minteh who joined Brighton.
According to The Sun, Liverpool have identified Anderson as a surprise target for a move. Reds boss Arne Slot sent scouts to watch his last six games and reviews have been overwhelmingly positive for the midfielder.
Toon legend Alan Shearer was full of praise for Anderson on a recent episode of The Rest Is Football – he stated Anderson “has a class about him”.
The Whitley Bay-born star may be reluctant to leave Forest who are giving him consistent first-football.
Anderson has made 18 appearances for Forest this season, bagging five assists.
Eddie Howe didn’t want Anderson to leave
Although Anderson’s move made the most financial sense due to his comeuppance from Newcastle’s academy, it wasn’t a move Toon bosses wanted to make.
Howe thought very highly of Anderson, once referring to him as an “elite” player who had come up from the academy.
Anderson made 55 appearances for Newcastle across all competitions but failed to find the net during his time in the first-team.
His fine form for Forest has seen him called up for England’s under-21s this season – he has scored one goal in his four appearances.
