Alex Scott is becoming one of the most sought-after young players in football lately with the 19-year-old courting interest from Newcastle United, West Ham, Wolves and now Liverpool.
It seems like there’s going to be quite the scramble for the Guernsey-born player’s signature in the summer with The Daily Mail now reporting that Liverpool have entered the race for the Bristol City star.
Newcastle‘s interest in the “Guernsey Grealish” is well established at this point, going back to February. Since then, Alex Scott has come up against the player to whom he’s been compared, drawing praise from the man himself with Jack Grealish calling him a ‘top, top talent‘. Scott also drew praise from Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola after their FA Cup meeting with Bristol City.

The Mail reports that Liverpool despatched scouts to watch Scott in action for England Under 20s as they took on Germany. Scott hasn’t played for his club since as he picked up a ligament injury the following week whilst still on international duty.
It’s thought that West Ham are planning for life after Declan Rice and see Scott as an ideal replacement while Newcastle are looking to strengthen in all areas of the squad this summer. Liverpool have had a torrid season and will also be looking to strengthen in the off-season.
Whether Newcastle can see off the challenge of other clubs for the ‘unbelievable‘ youngster remains to be seen. He’s believed to be valued at at least £25million already which is no small figure, especially with Newcastle needing to recruit heavily.
Scott’s price tag might be too much for Newcastle this season
It could be too much of a chunk out of the Magpies’ budget to blow on a youngster who may not be first-team ready and as such it could mean he is scooped up by a rival club.
Of course, there’s every chance that our scouts have identified him as someone who could step up to the intensity of the Premier League straight away, in which case £25million doesn’t look to be that much.
Scott sounds like a very exciting prospect and as such, I hope we are the club to pick him up this summer, even if he has to cut his teeth in the reserves or out on loan for a season. Newcastle are seemingly all about building for the future and Scott definitely sounds like on of the hottest prospects around.
