Bristol City sensational Alex Scott is a man in demand this summer, and Newcastle United are reportedly in the mix to sign him.
That is according to journalist Ben Jacobs, who has named Newcastle as ‘one to watch’ in the race to sign Scott when the transfer window reopens.
The 19-year-old is one of the Championship’s standout stars, and recently turned heads with a wonderful performance in an FA Cup defeat to Manchester City. He was praised by both Pep Guardiola and Jack Grealish after the game, with the latter calling Scott a ‘top top talent‘.
He looks destined to play in the Premier League. That could happen in the very near future, with multiple top flight clubs keeping a close eye on the midfielder.
Newcastle are one of them, with the Magpies keen to battle Tottenham for the teenager’s signature according to the Sun.
What Ben Jacobs has said about Alex Scott to Newcastle
As well as Newcastle and Tottenham, Jacobs also believes that Wolves, West Ham and Leicester are interested in Scott.
He wrote on Twitter: “Alex Scott expected to leave Bristol City this summer, as revealed in December. Concrete proposals arrived in January, but Bristol City held out for near-double what suitors wanted. Going to take around £25m. Wolves and Tottenham very seriously looking. #NUFC one to watch.
“West Ham and Leicester also tracking. Bournemouth (Scott was at their academy) interest has cooled. Leeds were in the mix, but Jesse Marsch a part of that. Several Premier League clubs are going to try for Scott for sure come summer.
“Scott drew praise from Pep Guardiola, who called him a “really good player” when #MCFC played Bristol City in the FA Cup. Sources again reiterate Scott will move in 2023. He’s seen as a future England player.”
Scott the type of signing we need to make
£25million is a lot of money for a Championship player, but Scott clearly has a huge amount of potential. He is already immensely talented, and looks ready to make the step up to the Premier League.
The midfielder is graceful in possession, and has the ability to cut open defences with his passing. That is what Newcastle need, and he fits the profile perfectly of what the club are looking for in the transfer market.
The Magpies have made a real effort to sign young players with potential who can grow and develop at St James’ Park, and that is Scott to a tee.
If Newcastle believe he is a future star then this is their best chance to sign him. Wait five years and he will only cost even more. Dan Ashworth should invest in the teenager this summer if the club believe he is a Premier League star in the making.
If he reaches his potential, the £25million spent now could prove to be a masterstroke.
