Jamal Lewis reacts to confirmed Newcastle deadline day exit

For all the talk of players potentially leaving Newcastle United this month, the January transfer window remained quiet.

With no incomings at Newcastle amid FFP frustrations, much of the speculation surrounded players potentially leaving.

While Jamaal Lascelles could feasibly leave for Besiktas, the bulk of the key players stayed at St James’ Park.

There were no exits for Callum Wilson, Kieran Trippier or Miguel Almiron despite all of the speculation.

One player who did leave, however, was Isaac Hayden.

He joined QPR on loan for the rest of the season, having seen a stint with Standard Liege come to an early end.

Another player frozen out at St James’ Park and currently plying his trade on loan in the second tier, Jamal Lewis was delighted with Hayden’s move.

Hayden took to Instagram to celebrate his move to west London, to which Lewis responded with a love-heart emoji.

Newcastle transfer news: Very quiet Deadline Day

All the noise had suggested it would be a slow Deadline Day for Newcastle fans.

Clearly, that is frustrating, particularly with the squad having looked reasonably light during the injury crisis.

Still, the FFP limitations had been spoken about well before the window and there was little getting around them unless there was a big sale.

Sending the likes of Hayden on loan again is surely unlikely to create much in the way of wiggle room of course but, frankly, it hasn’t seemed like many clubs have had much disposable income in the Premier League let alone in the Championship.

With Hayden not likely to have been involved in Eddie Howe’s squad even if he did not get a move, at least a spell at QPR can help his career get back on track.
