Jack Grealish’s ‘likely’ next move revealed as Newcastle United eye Man City star

Jack Grealish is again being linked with a move to Newcastle United.

Grealish, at 29, is slightly older than the profile of player Newcastle United have generally signed under their PIF ownership.

Generally, the club have looked to splash the cash on younger players since the takeover in October 2021.

Still, Grealish has been linked with a move to Newcastle. The England international has struggled for game time under Pep Guardiola this season, starting only 16 times across all competitions.

As such, he’s being tipped to leave despite Guardiola previously telling Sky Sports that he trusts Grealish “unconditionally”. Interestingly, fellow City player James McAtee has also been touted as a Toon target.

It has been claimed Newcastle want to sign McAtee, though a recent update in regard to Grealish is perhaps more eye-catching.

Jack Grealish’s likely next move amid Newcastle United interest

According to The Athletic, the former Aston Villa star could leave the Etihad this summer.

They again tout Newcastle as a potential landing spot, but stress a loan move would be the most likely outcome.

Grealish has only two years left on his contract at City and does not appear to be in Guardiola’s regular plans as things stand.

Jack Grealish’s salary could prove a problem for Newcastle United

Any move for the forward would likely split opinion amongst the Newcastle fan base. Grealish bizarrely criticised Miguel Almiron back in 2022 during City’s Premier League trophy parade, which sparked outrage from fans online.

While the move to City has brought him team success, there have been suggestions that Grealish is no longer the force of old.

Even beyond that, however, Newcastle actually signing him would be a huge call.

Though a loan move could potentially see City pay at least some of his wage, it’s still a sizeable salary to take on.

According to Capology, Grealish is paid around £300k-per-week.

Bruno Guimaraes£160k-per-week
Joelinton£150k-per-week
Anthony Gordon£150k-per-week
Sandro Tonali£120k-per-week

Bruno Guimaraes is Newcastle’s highest-paid player on around £160k-per-week, so even if City did lighten the load, Grealish would arrive as one of the club’s biggest earners.

That would be a big call from Howe. At 29 and looking like a declining force right now, it does not feel in keeping with the recruitment work Newcastle have done in the last few years.
