Newcastle United might suddenly have a chance to get rid of Ryan Fraser this summer.

The winger is one of three out of favour players who the club desperately need to move on. The other two are Isaac Hayden and Jeff Hendrick, who Newcastle have received no offers for so far this summer.

But an offer could be on the way for Fraser, who has been linked with a move to Celtic as of late.

However, now a new team are interested in the Scotland international, who could get the chance to restart his career in Italy.

Empoli want Ryan Fraser on loan

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Empoli are interested in signing Fraser.

The report states that the Serie A side would like to bring the 29-year-old in on loan, and are willing to cover 50% of his wages.

That could be ideal for Newcastle, as it would at least reduce the wage bill to some extent. Ideally he would leave permanently and the Magpies would no longer need to pay him a penny, but that is looking unlikely with less than two weeks to go in the transfer window.

A loan move to Italy could be Newcastle’s best chance of getting rid of Fraser, who fell out with Eddie Howe earlier this year.

The winger was dropped from the first-team squad on the eve of the Carabao Cup final, and has not been seen since. His only minutes came at youth level, with Fraser playing for Newcastle’s Under-21s back in April.

He was excellent on that day against Norwich, and was described as ‘absolutely terrific‘ by Toon youth coach Ben Dawson.

But given the fallout with Howe, it is absolutely vital that Fraser leaves the club this month. He is a waste of resources, which is why talk of Empoli covering half of his wages is encouraging.

A move there would allow him to play alongside fellow Scot Liam Henderson, which would perhaps make the prospect of moving to Italy less daunting for Fraser.
