Newcastle United winger Ryan Fraser is reportedly training with the Under-21s ahead of the Carabao Cup final as a summer exit looms.

That is according to the Daily Mail, who state that Fraser is no longer training with the Newcastle first-team. Instead, he is with the youngsters at the club’s academy, and is unlikely to return to the senior setup.

This comes after the 28-year-old failed to secure a move away from St James’ Park during the January transfer window. He was heavily linked with a departure, with both the club and the player happy to part ways.

However, a deal didn’t happen and Fraser remained on Tyneside. He even returned to the matchday squad, and was on the bench for the draws with West Ham and Bournemouth.

But he was missing again on Saturday for the clash with Liverpool, and it now looks like he will not be part of the Newcastle team that face Manchester United in this weekend’s Carabao Cup final.

No Wembley appearance for Newcastle winger Ryan Fraser

With Fraser now training with the Under-21s and unlikely to return to the first-team, he will not be part of the squad for Sunday’s Wembley final.

The Scotland international actually hasn’t played a single minute in the Magpies’ run to the League Cup final, and it looks like he will now never play for the club again.

The Daily Mail add that Fraser is expected to leave at the end of the season, with Newcastle keen to get rid. That is also what the player wants, the report adds.

It was a huge shock to see him remain at Newcastle after the January transfer window. It hinted that there might be a way back for him. However, things have actually gotten worse and he is no longer part of Eddie Howe’s first-team setup.

Other than a purple patch last season, Fraser’s move to St James’ Park has proven to be a bit of a disaster, and it is vital he gets a fresh start somewhere else this summer.

Newcastle are off to Wembley this weekend, but Fraser isn’t.
