Newcastle United and Eddie Howe could soon be free of the one big issue hovering over the club as Celtic look to make their move for Ryan Fraser.

Ryan Fraser has been training with the Newcastle reserves for a few months now after falling out, once again, with Eddie Howe, however The Northern Echo claims that Fraser’s Newcastle hell could soon come to an end.

While it has never been made public what the issue was, Howe did say something about only wanting players at Newcastle who are committed to giving 100% at the club. The timing of that statement, coming just a couple of days after Fraser’s banishment, spoke volumes.

Fraser has done what was asked of him despite his banishment

To be fair to Fraser, it sounds like he has still done what has been asked of him despite his banishment with youngster Matty Bondswell recently saying that the free signing from Bournemouth will be missed by the youth squad if he’s moved on.

Fraser got his move to Newcastle after leaving Bournemouth to go back to Scotland during the COVID outbreak. He pretty much walked away and refused to play again when the league started back up, letting his contract expire. A move which obviously didn’t sit well with then Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe.

When the two were reunited at Newcastle it became the big story – how will the two get on? The pair managed to keep things civil for a while and Fraser was used by Howe in the first team, until suddenly it was announced that Fraser had been sent to train with the reserves.

Tino Livramento has taken Ryan Fraser’s squad number at Newcastle

There is clearly no route back for Fraser at Newcastle, the latest indicator being the fact that new boy Tino Livramento has taken over the number 21 shirt.

It had been reported yesterday that Celtic were potentially interested in Fraser and that story has gathered pace today with The Northern Echo claiming that the Scottish Champions are set to make a ‘formal bid’ for the 29-year-old.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers needs another winger and feels that Fraser would fit the bill. It’s probably a win-win-win situation. Fraser gets to go back to Scotland, Howe gets rid of his nemesis and Rodgers gets the winger he wanted. It’s likely that Celtic won’t need to part with a significant fee as Newcastle’s aim is just to get him and his £63k-a-week wages (Salary Sport) off the books.
