Whether Alexander Isak is leaving Newcastle United amid Hugo Ekitike transfer developments

Newcastle United are pushing to sign Hugo Ekitike, leading supporters to ask what that means for the future of Alexander Isak.

Ekitike has agreed personal terms with Newcastle United, as the club look to finally bring the Frenchman to St James’ Park.

Newcastle could pay more than £70million for Ekitike, which would make him their most expensive signing in history.

Given Eddie Howe has largely operated with only one striker during his time in charge of Newcastle, the potential addition of Ekitike has led to further speculation about Isak’s future.

Newcastle United not looking to sell Alexander Isak

Newcastle want Ekitike and Isak to play together next season, signalling their intent for the campaign ahead.

Isak still has three years to run on his contract on Tyneside and has shown no outward desire to leave the club any time soon.

With that in mind, it seems like Newcastle potentially signing Ekitike does not mean Isak will be leaving.

Ekitike, then, can be considered Callum Wilson’s potential replacement for the 2025/26 season. Wilson, of course, left Newcastle upon the expiration of his contract earlier this summer.

When Alexander Isak will leave Newcastle United

Newcastle would prefer to sell Isak to a foreign team when his time at the club has come to an end.

Again, there is absolutely no suggestion that he will leave any time soon.

Still, nothing lasts forever, and the player may be keen to continue his career elsewhere at some point.

Unless he signs a new contract, the striker will be down to his final two years next summer. As a result, Isak could leave Newcastle in 2026, potentially after a year of playing alongside Ekitike under Howe.

Isak is a Newcastle United legend and signing his replacement ahead of time seems a very shrewd move indeed, if at all possible.
