Inter Milan fans send message to Milan Skriniar after Newcastle rumour

Newcastle United have been linked with signing Milan Skriniar this summer, and now Inter Milan fans have made it clear that they want the defender to stay put.

Skriniar is out of contract at the end of the season, and is on course to become a free agent. It has been reported that Inter have offered him a new deal, but he is yet to put pen to paper on an extension.

That has led to speculation that he could leave the Italian giants this year, either for a fee this month or as a free agent at the end of the season.

Newcastle have been tentatively linked with the Slovakian centre-back in recent months. The most recent claim came from 90min, who stated that the Magpies are expected to offer him a contract to move to St James’ Park in the summer.

Getting Skriniar on a free would be a huge coup for Newcastle, and make Eddie Howe’s impenetrable defence even stronger – if that is even possible.

But Inter Milan fans do not want to see Skriniar’s career at the San Siro end in the coming months, and sent him a clear message on Tuesday night.

The Nerazzurri were in Coppa Italia action on Tuesday, taking on Parma in the round of 16. They won 2-1 in extra time, with Skriniar coming off the bench in the 113th minute.

But before the game, the Inter Milan faithful sent him a clear message as they unveiled a banner.

The banner read: “Skriniar stays in Milan, you are our captain.”

Interestingly, Skriniar is not the official captain at Inter Milan. That honour belongs to goalkeeper Samir Handanovic. However, Skriniar certainly is a leader, and a huge player for Simone Inzaghi.

Fans are desperate for him to stay, and Inzaghi will no doubt feel the same. Losing a key player is always a blow, but it is even worse when it is on a free.

That is what Newcastle are targeting, with 90min stating that Eddie Howe’s side are expected to put a contract offer on the table to try and tempt Skriniar to Tyneside.

However, a deal is going to be very difficult. He has a lot of elite clubs chasing his signature, while he also has the option of staying at Inter Milan. That is what their fans want, and they made that fact very clear on Tuesday night.
