Newcastle United may suddenly have a very big decision to make involving Kieran Trippier.
At a time when Newcastle are under pressure to raise funds and ease their profit and sustainability concerns, they are receiving interest in one of their most important players.
It has been claimed by the Chronicle that Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are interested in signing the 33-year-old.
They are looking to bring in a right-back during the January transfer window, while a move to Munich would allow Kieran Trippier to be reunited with former Tottenham Hotspur teammates Harry Kane and Eric Dier.
Interest from Thomas Tuchel’s side puts both Newcastle and Trippier in a difficult situation. He is so important to the Magpies, and has been a transformative figure on and off the pitch. But selling players is a great way to raise funds, and the veteran’s Toon contract does expire in 2025.
And that is why it could be a good time to sell, even though a St James’ Park exit would be heartbreaking.

Newcastle could listen to offers for Kieran Trippier
According to TalkSPORT, Newcastle could be willing to listen to offers for Trippier this month. They reinforce that Bayern Munich are keen, with Tuchel eager to bring in another England international.
A move to the Bundesliga would present Trippier with a fresh challenge, and he has previously been willing to take a step outside his comfort zone. We saw that when he took his talents to Spain and signed for Atletico Madrid.
Now Bayern Munich could give him a similar opportunity, while it would also give him a chance to return to the Champions League. The Bavarian side are still in the competition, while Newcastle were knocked out and are almost certain not to qualify for it next season.
That could come into Trippier’s thinking, while Newcastle may see it as an ideal time to recoup some money for an ageing player who has struggled for form as of late.
Trippier has admitted himself that he has not been playing well enough, while the Magpies do have the added bonus of already having Tino Livramento as a replacement.
Talk of Trippier leaving has come as a shock, but it might actually make a lot of sense, sadly.
