Newcastle United fans have reacted after reports that Eddie Howe wants to sign Marc Guehi, who was heavily linked with a move in 2024.
With a new centre-back on the cards this summer, Eddie Howe has reignited interest in the defender, who came close to joining the Magpies in 2024.
Former sporting director Paul Mitchell spent months trying to sign Marc Guehi for Newcastle United, but bids were constantly rejected by Crystal Palace, despite the fee being offered reaching £70million.
Guehi stayed at Palace for the 2024/25 campaign, helping them win the FA Cup for the first time ever. Mitchell was angry after failing to bring Guehi to Newcastle and left the club without making a major signing during his 12-month stint at the club.
It has now been reported that Newcastle are interested in Guehi, who should cost significantly less than what Palace were asking for last summer.
With a move for Guehi back on the cards, Newcastle fans have given their honest verdict on whether the defender is even worth signing.

Newcastle United fans do not want to sign Marc Guehi
Guehi was pictured in Palace’s 2025/26 kit launch, but he could be seen in a Newcastle shirt by the end of the summer if things go to plan.
Despite that, Newcastle have their reservations about signing the 25-year-old, who made 35 Premier League appearances last season.
“Here we go again.” said one Newcastle fan, while another added, “What’s the point? We know what the inevitable outcome will be.”
This Newcastle fan referenced how long deals are taking to get over the line, saying: “Should get a conclusion to this by 2029 then.”
“It’s been bad enough this summer. This coming back into the fray is the last thing we need.”
Another fan added: “I can’t be a—- with this chase again if Parish messes us about let’s not carry on one or two bids and if nothing is agreed then walk away.”
Finally, this Newcastle fan said: “Another waste of time. Have we not scouted other players?”

What Marc Guehi’s agents have said about a move away from Crystal Palace
Guehi is not the only centre-back Newcastle are interested in. Geordie Boot Boys understands Newcastle are still admirers of Malick Thiaw, who recently rejected a move to Como in favour of a club in a European competition.
Elsewhere, Newcastle remain keen on signing Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini, but the feeling is that the Serie A side are reluctant to let him go.
Unfortunately, it does not seem likely that Guehi will leave Crystal Palace this summer and could wait to explore free agency in 2026.
Guehi is out of contract next summer and is still subject to interest from the likes of Liverpool.
