Giorgio Scalvini is one of Newcastle United’s transfer targets on the defensive front this summer.
Newcastle have grand plans to sign a new defender even despite their high-profile pursuit of a new forward to replace Callum Wilson.
Scalvini is a Newcastle target and reports have suggested he could be available for £52million.
Still, it remains to be seen if the club go that high, if Atalanta are even looking to sell.
The Italian club have consistently yielded maximum value out of buying clubs for their players, selling the likes of Rasmus Hojlund and Teun Koopmeiners for huge money in recent seasons.
Now, they’ve dropped a hint in regard to Scalvini’s future in a potential blow for Newcastle.

Giorgio Scalvini models Atalanta’s kit for the 2025/26 season
On Thursday, Atalanta’s official Instagram page posted an image of various players donning their kit for the 2025/26 season to come.
Sadly for Newcastle, Scalvini was seen wearing the strip, which is perhaps an indication that they are confident he will stay at the club this summer.
Clearly, it doesn’t mean a deal is definitely off, but it should be noted that Newcastle paraded Alexander Isak in their new kit, which came as a relief to supporters given all the speculation about his future.
It’s not hard to imagine Atalanta fans feeling the same about Scalvini…
How Giorgio Scalvini feels about joining Newcastle United this summer
Scalvini is open to joining Newcastle this summer, having been flattered by their interest.
While the Magpies are yet to make a bid, at least they appear to have the green light from the player should it come to it.
Clearly, that wouldn’t make talks with Atalanta any easier. Newcastle have endured a frustrating summer transfer window thus far and any potential talks with the Italian club are unlikely to be easy.
Newcastle need to make a defensive signing soon. Having failed to last summer, the situation cannot continue like this.
It needs to be a priority heading into the new Premier League season.
