Newcastle United continue to suffer the consequences of signing Odysseas Vlachodimos in 2024.
The Greek goalkeeper joined Newcastle United last summer as part of the deal that saw Elliot Anderson move to Nottingham Forest for £35million.
That deal was done so Newcastle could comply with PSR. In return, the Magpies bought Odysseas Vlachodimos for £20million.
It was reported in January that Vlachodimos is ‘frustrated’ at Newcastle United due to his lack of opportunities, with the 31-year-old making just one appearance during his first year on Tyneside.

What Newcastle United plan to do with Odysseas Vlachodimos
As the Magpies prepare to revamp their squad during the summer transfer window, Vlachodimos’ future remains uncertain.
According to the Athletic, Newcastle United are willing to listen to offers for Vlachodimos.
However, the Athletic add that a loan exit is more likely than a permanent departure for Eddie Howe’s third-choice goalkeeper.
That is because a cut-price deal would have a knock-on effect on Newcastle’s PSR position. He joined on a five-year deal last year, with his £20million fee amortised over the length of that contract.
While Newcastle would love to recoup the £20million they paid for the Greece international, that is not going to happen.
Newcastle United braced for major reshuffle
Newcastle had five senior goalkeepers for the 2024/25 season, but that department could look very different for the 2025/26 campaign.
It has been reported that John Ruddy is likely to leave, with the veteran stopper’s contract due to expire at the end of June. Mark Gillespie’s future is also uncertain, with his contract also winding down.
In terms of incomings, Geordie Boot Boys understand that Newcastle are likely to sign Fraser Forster on a free transfer. The 37-year-old is set to be released by Tottenham Hotspur, and would count as a club-trained player for the Magpies’ Champions League squad.
On top of that, Newcastle want to sign James Trafford from Burnley. He is Howe’s top goalkeeper target this summer, with the Newcastle United manager eager for Trafford to arrive and compete with Nick Pope.
Combine those situations with Vlachodimos’ potential exit and Newcastle United’s goalkeeping department appears set for a major makeover.
