Newcastle United moved to bolster their frontline this summer.
Despite boasting two prolific strikers in the shape of Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson, neither are particularly reliable on the fitness front.
Isak’s situation is clearly not quite as bad as Wilson’s but the Sweden international has not been without injury problems since joining Newcastle in 2022.
Wilson, meanwhile, continues to miss games and has entered the final year of his contract anyway.
Will Osula was something of a surprise signing this summer and the hope is that Eddie Howe will be able to develop the Dane into a Premier League-ready marksman.
Still, it remains to be seen what goes on with the striking department at Newcastle going forward.
Isak will no doubt continue to be linked with a move away unless the club qualify for the Champions League, while Wilson looks to be coming towards the end of his time at St James’ Park.
One striker who has previously been touted as a Newcastle transfer target has now offered an update on his future.
Jonathan David, hailed as “fantastic” by pundit Micah Richards, has been speaking about his potential next move.

The Canada international has entered the final year of his contract with Lille and hinted he would be open to a move to the Premier League when speaking to The Athletic, albeit a stint in England is not his absolute priority.
“I’m open to anything,” he said.
“I think obviously the Premier League is regarded as one of the best league in the world. And for me it’s not the Premier League or bust. I’m open to anything and every league has its challenges.”
Newcastle do need a new striker next summer
While Osula should be afforded time to develop, Wilson will surely need replacing next summer regardless of what happens.
The striker, as prolific as he may be, simply cannot be relied upon to stay fit.
At 32, that seems incredibly unlikely to change at this stage of his career.
David or not, Newcastle will need to bolster their options next summer.
