Newcastle United have been linked with signing Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig this summer, but that is a deal that will no longer be happening.
The Magpies recently went to Germany to scout Olmo, watching him play in RB Leipzig’s 3-1 win over Bayern Munich last month.
The scouting mission hinted at a possible move away from the German side to St James’ Park, but a new report explains that the 25-year-old is going absolutely nowhere ahead of next season.
Dani Olmo set for new RB Leipzig contract
According to Sky Germany, Olmo is set to sign a new contract to stay at RB Leipzig. The new deal will keep him at the club beyond this summer, while it also includes a future release clause.
His initial deal was due to expire in 2024, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has added that this new contract will run until the summer of 2027. He adds that the release clause that will be included is going to be worth almost £52million.

While Newcastle now know how much a future deal for Olmo will cost, a move this summer appears to be off the table. That is a shame, as Olmo is a ‘fantastic‘ player and someone who could really add something different to Eddie Howe’s attack.
Newcastle will have to look elsewhere
However, the Magpies will instead have to look elsewhere – perhaps to one of Olmo’s teammates.
Newcastle have also been linked with signing Dominik Szoboszlai, who plays in a similar role to Olmo. Perhaps news of the Spaniard staying at Leipzig makes a move away for Szoboszlai more likely.
There is no way that Leipzig would sell both, but now it looks like they have got Olmo’s future secured. In contrast, Szoboszlai has refused to rule out a move away this summer.
