Newcastle United are set to make Jacob Ramsey their fourth signing of the summer, with another deal not far away either.

It was confirmed on Thursday that Newcastle have agreed to sign Ramsey for around £40million, with personal terms finalised.

The 24-year-old will join Anthony Elanga, Aaron Ramsdale and Malick Thiaw as Eddie Howe’s summer signings, but the Magpies are not finished there.

It has been vital all summer that Newcastle United sign a striker. Yoane Wissa has been a top target, with the Brentford forward seen as a replacement for Callum Wilson.

That deal could suddenly be about to progress, as dominoes fall into place.

Newcastle United set to push ahead with Yoane Wissa deal

For Newcastle to sign Wissa, Brentford need to bring in a replacement. They are suddenly set to do that, having agreed to buy Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth.

That could give Wissa the green light to move to St James’ Park, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano providing an update on the striker’s situation on X.

Romano wrote on X: “Newcastle now planning to advance with Yoane Wissa deal as soon as possible after Brentford agreed Ouattara deal. Ouattara to sign at Brentford in next 24h, Wissa not even with the squad this weekend as he only wants to leave. Clear priority to #NUFC.”

In what is further encouragement for Newcastle, it was announced that Wissa will not play for Brentford in their Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest.

The 28-year-old has his heart set on a move to the North East, and that dream now looks more likely than ever to become a reality.

That will delight Eddie Howe, who currently only has Will Osula available as a striker due to Alexander Isak refusing to play.

Could Yoane Wissa make his Newcastle United debut against Aston Villa?

There would need to be an incredibly quick turnaround for Newcastle United to hand Wissa his Toon debut this weekend.

Newcastle face Aston Villa in their Premier League opener, with players needing to be registered before 12pm on Friday.

There is next to no chance that Newcastle will get the Wissa deal pushed through in time to register him for Saturday’s game at Villa Park. There is not enough time to get him to Tyneside and complete a medical.

Newcastle had hoped to sign Wissa this week, and the DR Congo international remains very much on course to join Eddie Howe’s squad. However, the most likely outcome is that he makes his debut against Liverpool in the first home game of the season on 25th August.
