Newcastle United could have a battle on their hands when trying to sign players this summer.
Indeed, with Newcastle boasting huge ambition, it’s only natural that they would share targets with other big clubs.
The pool of players who could realistically come in and make a big impact in Eddie Howe’s first choice starting eleven will obviously get smaller over the next few years.
The more successful Newcastle are, the calibre of player required will no doubt be raised.
With that in mind, it’s hardly surprising to see other big clubs linked with moves with reported Newcastle targets.
Fabrizio Romano has now shared an update regarding one man linked with a move to St James’ Park.

Fabrizio Romano has now named the two clubs pushing hard to sign Newcastle target Michael Olise
Crystal Palace star Michael Olise has been linked with a move to Newcastle for a while now.
The 22-year-old is thought to be one of the names on the club’s shortlist this summer amid reports Palace would be looking for around £60m for the former Reading youngster.
However, on X (formerly Twitter), Romano named Manchester United and Chelsea as the clubs pushing hardest to sign Olise.
Michael Olise’s injury record should be a worry for Newcastle
Such was the relentless nature of the injury crisis at Newcastle last season, the fitness records of potential recruits must be taken into account.
While there is little doubting Olise’s quality, with Jamie Carragher having hailed him as a “superstar” following Palace’s big win over Manchester United, the injuries are a worry.
Since joining Palace in 2021, hamstring problems have seen him miss 195 days of action, equating to 21 games (via Transfermarkt).
For a sizeable chunk of money during a period in which Newcastle may be under the cosh FFP-wise, caution must be applied.
It would be foolish to suggest Olise wouldn’t be a fine addition but those issues are certainly worth considering…
