Newcastle United insider effectively confirms bad news for fans after Anthony Gordon sale

The idea that Newcastle United selling Anthony Gordon means they do not have to cash in on other leading players does seem remote.

Earlier this week, Gordon completed a £70million move to Barcelona in a deal that hopefully kickstarts Newcastle United’s own spending.

However, one headline departure may not be enough to balance the books, such is the financial tightrope the club find themselves walking.

Indeed, a club source is now on record of all-but confirming some worrying news for Newcastle fans.

Club source confirms more leading players may leave Newcastle

A club source spoke to The Chronicle and revealed that things could actually get worse on the exit front before they get better.

“The ambition is still here and new signings will be made but nobody has ever hidden from the fact we need to be better at trading and that means some players will go this summer too,” they said.

Frankly, Newcastle’s leading players have been linked away for a while now. The likes of Lewis Hall, Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento have all been the subject of speculation.

What does being HAPPY we sold Gordon quickly say about Newcastle United? 👀

The standards, I feel, have never been lower…

It’s got to the stage where it would be a surprise to see all of them stay at the club this summer.

The hope is that only a few will go, and that they will be replaced adequately.

That is the one challenge the club must meet this summer. The mistakes of 2025 simply cannot be repeated.

Selling players really shouldn’t be the issue on Tyneside. It’s something almost every club in the world have to navigate.

While it would be ideal to keep a hold of Guimaraes and Hall above everyone else linked away, Newcastle will go on without whoever leaves.

Finding the right replacements for their departures is the best response Newcastle can have after a bruising year or so. Not only would it give them a competitive team heading into next season, it would prove that the journey can continue on even without one specific group of individuals.
