Journalist Fabrizio Romano has handed Newcastle a transfer boost with one Newcastle United player in high demand now not expected to leave the club in January.
It’s been a difficult transfer window for Newcastle so far with news emerging that the club don’t have the funds available to make wholesale changes, or even any changes, without selling some of their assets.
This has sparked rumours that someone like Bruno Guimaraes could be sold to raise funds, but speaking to Caught Offside, Romano has now claimed that the midfielder will be staying at Newcastle this month.
Romano says Bruno will stay at Newcastle for now
There is always the possibility that the Brazilian will leave Newcastle in the near future, particularly if the club are no longer competing in any form of European competition.
PSG were starting to show interest in the 26-year-old as rumours built that Newcastle are looking to sell one of their star players in order to bring in a number of new faces to provide some depth for this stretched squad.
However, it was always going to be very unlikely that Newcastle commissioned a sale as big as Bruno in the middle of a season when the one thing they need is some stability to get back to their best form.
Romano has now supported that argument as Bruno looks set to stay on at Tyneside at least beyond this window, though he may have a number of suitors in the summer when the club is more prepared and has more time to evaluate a sale.
On Bruno, Romano said: “Despite rumours, nothing is clear now on Bruno Guimaraes. Bruno has not decided to leave, there’s nothing decided in terms of price, all reports on Spanish clubs are not confirmed just because time for decisions is not now. Bruno is expected to stay in January and then in the next months we will see what happens.”

Bruno is the heartbeat of Newcastle
Bruno epitomises everything that the St James’ Park crowd wants in a footballer and it’s not so simple to replace someone of that quality and who has that sort of a connection with the crowd.
From day one since he signed from Lyon two years ago he has proved to be a very popular figure amongst the fanbase, not only because of how good he is but because of his hunger and desire to fight for the team.
As the iconic phrase goes, Newcastle don’t demand a team that wins they demand a team that tries, and one thing you can never fault the £40m midfielder for is a lack of trying.
Selling Bruno would obviously free up so much more money to spend in the transfer window, allowing Newcastle to upgrade in several positions, but they’d struggle to find another player who is connected to the club in the same way.
